Welcome to Cascade Meadows Farm! We are a small 40 acre family
farm nestled in the foothills of Oregon’s beautiful Cascade Mountain
Range. We are located about 30 miles East of the City of Portland,
Oregon near Mt. Hood, close to a national wilderness area.
We have the perfect combination of heritage livestock breeds to help
us be self-sustainable in as natural of an environment as possible.
Each animal and plant on the farm has a serious and important
working role:
Dexter Cattle - These delightful and friendly small cattle provide excellent high-
quality beef and milk, while keeping our pastures well-mowed. Cows and bulls are
very easy to keep for beginners.
American Guinea Hogs - These friendly small heritage farm pigs are easy to
manage and they recycle leftover farm produce and provide excellent pork for the
table and lard for cooking - they graze grass and clover all day long and rarely root
if grazing is available. We couldn't run our farm without them. Nothing goes to
waste, and male guinea hogs raised for meat do not need to be castrated. It's
very easy to keep a breeding pair.
Icelandic Sheep - Colorful and hardy, they eat pasture weeds, provide wool for
home spinning/felting and provide the most mild and flavorful gourmet quality
lamb meat you've ever tasted. They've greatly improved our pastures.
Heritage Chickens - Speckled Sussex and Ameraucanas. These dual purpose
birds eat much grass and clover, help scatter cow pies, and provide healthful
colorful fertile eggs and quality meat with white skin (not yellow).
Mini Nubian Goats - Compact, but not tiny versions of Nubian goats, they eat
blackberry shoots and leaves and pasture grass and weeds and provide excellent
milk and meat. The best goats milk we've ever tasted - just like cows milk but
better. The boys provide excellent quality meat.
White Clover - This workhorse plant is critical to our farm. With the help of
special bacteria living in root nodules, clover converts atmospheric nitrogen into
nitrogen fertilizer for the companion grasses and protein available for the livestock.
Cattle, sheep, goat, pigs, and chickens all thrive on clover.
All of our registered pure-breeds have been selected for their
manageable sizes, grazing abilities, friendly dispositions, compatibility
with each other, and their excellent outputs. You've never tasted
better beef, pork, lamb, chicken, eggs, or milk than we have on our
farm and our Icelandic wool is beautiful and useful.
Our animals do all of our mowing and weeding for us and we provide
them with a natural, cage-free, environment. We utilize multi-
species, intensive, rotational grazing to improve the quality of our
pastures. Our livestock are regularly moved to fresh pasture and lead
natural, happy lives. Because of their moderate sizes and excellent
dispositions, they are easy keepers requiring little except clover, grass,
and hay and easy on the land.
In return for the quality lives we help provide our animals, they
provide us and our customers with high quality free-range pasture
raised eggs, chicken meat, goat’s milk, grass fed beef, lamb, pork, and
beautiful Icelandic wool. Our animals also provide us with superior
breeding stock to share with other farmers and small landholders.
